Your private guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in the early morning,2.5 hours drive to the Jiankou Great Wall from the downtowen Beijing.Hiking from the most photographed Jiankou (Zhengbeikou) to Mutianyu is a popular Great Wall hiking route.Jiankou is about 70 miles away from central Beijing,takes about 2.5 hours drive to there.The hiking from Jinakou to Mutianyu is about 5 hours,5 miles long.
As an unrestored section, Jiankou remains half ruined, wild and untouched. It has a wild beauty and ruggedness that cannot be described unless you visit it.Following the wall towards Mutianyu. There is some steep climbing, and you’ll need a good head for heights and some balancing skills – at some points the Great Wall is overgrown with bushes, and this will force us to walk along the very edge, quite high above the ground.
Along the way we’ll pass through many towers. At one point we’ll have an option – take a forest detour past an old meeting place that would make a very good campsite, or climb up and down a steep broken down section of wall that’s named the Ox-Horn.
The famous or infamous Sky Stair is a stair-like outcropping at an angle of 70 to 80 degrees and is quite dangerous. It’s called the “infamous” Sky Stair because many people have been injured here and a few have even lost their lives. This section of the Great Wall is very narrow and it is extremely difficult to get a good foothold. You have to climb using both your hands and feet. Inexperienced hikers will find this section extremely difficult. This spot is an ideal challenge for adventurous hikers and mountain climbers.
After 5 hours hiking,you will arrive number 14 of the Mutianyu Great Wall,you can take cable car down from there or keep walking 1 hour to the number 6 of the Mutianyu Great Wall take toboggan down.
