The word"Hutong",which is what the small back streets or narrow lanes of Beijing are called.It is an unusual term used only in Beijing and a few northern cities in China.In fact,it came from Mongolian roots.Used be all over around Beijing,but lots of them are disappeared today.Only certain area preserved by local government.
